A review of 144 pages received from CNPRC bears witness to a short and miserable existance for one primate known as MCY28114.

#28114 was born approximately April 1989 and was shipped to CNPRC. After 4 months in quarantine, the deliberate, torturous steps were in place to slowly and cruelly kill this primate.

CNPRC's records reflect that between 08/26/94 and 09/21/94 the electroejaculation experiments were inflicted 10 separate times.

12/94, staff reported #28114 was bleeding from both nostrils.

#28114 suffered from chronic diarrhea from 4/10/96 until he was killed in 2003. The 144 pages are almost solely dedicated to an unending description of nonstop diarrhea.

Below are just a few of the continuing problems 28114 suffered.

  1. 10/31/96 entry: 59 reports of diarrhea between May 1996 and 10/31/96. During this time staffers recorded weight of #28114 only 5 times in lab reports and 1 time in daily care logs.
  2. 02/11/97: pronounced rectal prolapse
  3. 07/97: rectal prolapse; still has diarrhea
  4. 08/24/97: laceration to arm. Self-mutilating.
  5. 08/25/97: primate in next cage is fighting with #28114
  6. 09/24/97 hand and fingers lacerated
  7. 09/27/97: amputation site on left hand has an abrasion.
  8. 07/13/98: more rectal prolapse recorded.
  9. 08/19/98: arm has puncture wound.
  10. 08/19/98: bite wound. Self-trauma, self-mutilating.
  11. 09/11/98: 2 small wounds on right bicep.
  12. 09/15/98: not eating.
  13. 12/22/98: he has had diarrhea for 7 days.
  14. 01/02/00: observed diarrhea and vomiting.
  15. 02/02/00: breathing abnormally.
  16. 06/02/00: lesions on neck reported-collar removed.
  17. 10/23/00: not eating.
  18. 10/27/00: poor appetite.
  19. 03/05/01: blood & clotted blood in cage. source unknown
  20. 03/26/01: more self-trauma, self-mutilation.
  21. 01/23/02: unconfirmed bloody nose.
  22. 03/02/02: toe trauma confirmed, dried blood.
  23. 03/03/02: toes curled, laceration to plantar side of foot.
  24. 04/26/02 thru 05/30/02: unconfirmed depression.
  25. 05/31/02: depression reported.
  26. 07/25/02: digit trauma confirmed on left hand. #28114 anesthesized to close laceration. Amputated fingers. Bite wound on left hand.
  27. 12/14/02: depression
  28. 12/20/02: poor appetite.
  29. 01/06/03: left hand finger trauma--amputated.
  30. 01/16/03: #28114 killed by lethal injection. Pancreas harvested--sent to necropsy.
  31. #28114 died @ 13years and 9 months old. Experimental necropsy as per study design.

This brief glimpse into the laboratory life of MCY 28114 would have been impossible without the efforts of Gary Brock. Thank you Gary for being a friend to MCY28114.
